Our Golden Opportunity

Our path to finding our new home, the Golden Spike Event Center at the Weber County
Fairgrounds.
In August of 2023, Colt and Clint were competing in the VanPrix Races during the Utah Nitrocross Event at Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC). Our Whiskey Throttle Team was there
having a great time, but what we didn’t know was that weekend would be the catalyst for
something big.
That weekend we stumbled across their abandoned dirt track, and it clicked! We need short
course racing in Utah! Outside of our friends at UTV TakeOver and UTV Invasion, who each
come into town one weekend per year, there were no short course racing events in Utah.
We saw an opportunity. We were willing to risk it all, and we did! One thing led to another and we found ourselves with a contract, 4 confirmed dates for 2024, and a lot of work to do. Whiskey Throttle Race Nights were born.
The track hadn’t been used for years, but after countless hours, our team brought the track
back to life. We pulled weeds, ran around with lawnmowers, reshaped the entire track, and
cleaned up the 16 acre area. On June 7th , 2024 we pulled off our first successful event! We
spent 2024 and the first half of 2025 running our Races at UMC with varying success but then
came our Golden Opportunity…

In 2025 we approached Weber County about the possibility of moving our Races to the
Golden Spike Event Center. Initial meetings went great and we started ‘the process’. As an
Ogden based business it was very important to showcase and support our local community.
This process required many steps, needed multiple approvals at varying levels and came with anticipated pushback.
We signed our contract in late August of 2025. This left us with some major problems, we were now 3 weeks before our first scheduled race on Sept 13th . We had no track, and we had to overhaul everything! It was the craziest 3 weeks of our lives, but we rallied together with the best people out there and somehow got it done. Our crew built a custom spec short course track from scratch while also redoing our marketing campaigns, racer details, spectator information, vendor plans, volunteer requirements, operations planning and logistic processes and so much more. Oh, and we all work full time jobs and have families!

September 13th might have been our proudest moment ever! The community freaking showed up big time! We went from averaging 200 spectators to over 2,000 at our first event! We had full racing classes for the SxS’s, Trophy Trucks, and VanPrix Minivans! We had more vendors than we had ever had. We had more volunteers than we have ever had. We now have the best partnership with Golden Spike Event Center that we ever had.

Our path to the Golden Spike Event Center truly was a Golden Opportunity for us! Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
